America 250 Civic Conversation Kit
As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary in 2026, communities across the country have a unique opportunity to reflect on the nation’s founding ideals – and the values that continue to shape its future.
The Reawakening America Civic Conversation Kit is designed to help libraries, book clubs, classrooms, civic organizations, and community groups host thoughtful, respectful conversations about America’s past, present, and possibility.
This is not a political program. It is a values-based conversation. Rooted in the themes of Reawakening America – Illuminating Her Brand, the experience invites participants to explore what it means to be an engaged citizen in a free society – and how thoughtful dialogue strengthens the American experiment.
Program Format:
The Civic Conversation can be hosted in a variety of settings: libraries, community centers, schools and universities, civic organizations (Rotary, Kiwanis, etc.), historical societies, faith-based discussion groups, and leadership and development programs. The program is designed to run approximately 60–90 minutes. Libraries
Suggested Event Structure:
Opening Reflection (5 minutes) – The host briefly introduces the purpose of the gathering: “As America approaches her 250th birthday, we are gathering not to debate, but to reflect on the values that shaped this nation and the conversations that will shape its future.”
Brief Book Overview (5 minutes) – Participants receive a short introduction to the book’s core ideas: America as a living, evolving experiment; values revealed through organizations and citizens; the importance of civic engagement and civil dialogue; and the concept of “brand integrity” at a national level.
Guided Discussion (40–60 minutes) – Participants explore selected discussion questions: What values have de ned America at her best? Which of those values feel strongest today? Which values need renewed attention? Where do we see alignment – or misalignment – between values and lived experience? What role do citizens play in strengthening the nation’s character? The goal is not debate. The goal is thoughtful conversation.
Reflection and Takeaways (10 minutes) – Participants share one idea, insight, or commitment they are taking away from the discussion.
Closing Thought (2 minutes) – The host closes with a simple reminder: “The American experiment has never been finished. It moves forward through citizens willing to reflect, engage, and continue the conversation.”
